PrinciplesThe basic philosophy of the Libertarian Party is documented in its Statement of Principles.
Libertarian Party Platform
One of the most productive dialogues going on today is the question of whether our government is in fact operating within the scope originally set forth in the United States Constitution and, in particular, the Bill of Rights. These were designed to secure and protect our liberty by dramatically limiting the powers of the federal government. We as citizens have increasingly yielded our personal power to the federal government, believing that somehow it would make us a better society. But the results are evident; the more we yield our power to the federal government, the fatter it grows, the less we get for our money, and the more restricted we are in our personal behavior. The Libertarian Party embraces the fundamental truth that was so clear to the original framers of the Constitution: less government is better government. The Libertarian Party defends the right of individuals to live in whatever manner they choose, as long as they do not forcibly interfere with the same rights of others. |
